Virginia Thompson Beechum (Nell) went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 16, 2018 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia with her family by her side.

Virginia was born on July 27, 1927 in Mexico to Ida Lee and Sammie Thompson. She attended school here in Mexico and graduated in 1945. She was baptized at an early age at Second Missionary Baptist Church.

In 1970, she married Frank C. Beechum, who preceded her in death on November 24, 1985.

Mrs. Beechum loved cooking and being with her family. She always seemed like she was mean, but was very sweet. She was known to most as “Ma Nell”.

Virginia worked at Kline’s Department Store. Later, she worked at A.P. Green until her health began to fail.

She leaves behind to mourn her passing one daughter, Latricia (Nan) of Mexico; and two sons, Fredrick of Columbia and Jerry of St. Louis. She raised a grandson, Micheal; and was survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Virginia was preceded in death by two children, Finnetta and Pearlene; four grandchildren, Yolanda, Monty, Quintell, and Nekeesha; two great-grandchildren, Fredrico and Breanna; three sisters, two brothers, five nephews, two nieces, and one cousin.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Mexico. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery

Visitation is Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the church.
