Joe Marion Offutt, 71, of Thompson, died on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home with military honors and burial to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park in Mexico. Visitation is Tuesday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Arnold Funeral Home.

Joe was born in Mexico on Jan. 6, 1947, the son of R. Melvin and Helen Lorraine (Craghead) Offutt. He attended Payne School, a one room school all 8 years of grade school. After graduating college, he served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

On May 23, 1969 he married Dorothy Jean Dollens at New Hope Baptist Church in Centralia and she survives at the family home.

He worked for Sydenstricker Implement for 39 years. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Thompson where he served as a Deacon, Superintendent and Sunday school teacher. He is a member of the Centralia VFW and enjoyed fishing, gardening, and growing flowers and was always available to help a neighbor. In 2017 he and his wife were the recipients of the Dale Schnarre rural citizen award.

In addition to his wife Dottie, he is survived by three daughters, Jennifer (Travis) Elam of Burlison, TN, Elizabeth (Shawn) Gilman of Auxvasse, Rachel (Charles) Gerhart of Columbia; three grandchildren, Olivia (Dalton) Ludwick of Hagerstown, MD, Zeke Gilman of Auxvasse, Lindsey Gerhart of Columbia; a sister Ann Offutt of Jefferson City and his mother-in-law Dorothy Dollens of Mexico.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Beaver Dam Cemetery, Audrain County Relay for Life, or Hopewell Baptist Church in care of Arnold Funeral Home.
