Michael Edward Brightwell, 63, of Thompson, dies

Michael Edward Brightwell, 63 of Thompson, died at 8:36 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Arnold Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Atkinson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.
Michael was born Nov. 30, 1946 in Keosauqua, Iowa, the son of Elroy and Naomi Mae (Cox) Brightwell. On Jan. 15, 1971 in Macon, he married Teresa Jones. She survives.
Mr. Brightwell had worked for Watts Well Drilling, helped build the nuclear plant in Fulton, worked at National Refractories and for the Audrain County Road District. He was a member of the American Legion, the 40 and 8 and the Freedom of the Road Riders. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church.
Michael was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War from 1967-1970. He had served in the Army National Guard in Mexico for many years.
In addition to his wife, Teresa, Michael is survived by two sons, Shannon (Valerie) Brightwell of Centralia and Jeremy Brightwell of Fulton; four grandchildren, Alexandrea Smith, Joseph Brightwell, Canaan Kilbourn and Grantland Brightwell; two sisters, Toni (Dave) Webber of Eldon and Vicki Brooks of Deland, Fla.; aunts and uncles, Karen(William) Salters of Keosauqua, Iowa, Sandy (George) Murray of Keosauqua, Iowa, Bill (Janet) Cox of Douds, Iowa, Marvin Cox of Iowa, Mary Cohenhauer of Iowa and Larry Jo Cox of Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brightwell was preceded in death by his father, Elroy Brightwell; mother and step-father, Naomi Mae and Charles “Pat” Patterson; grandmother, Flora Bell Cox-Ford; grandfather, Willard Argus Cox; and two uncles.
Memorials may be made to the American Legion, Audrain City-County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
