Elmer William Miller, 84, of Tipton, passed away on March 3, 2010 at Tipton Oak Manor, Tipton, Mo.
Elmer was born on Palm Sunday, April 5, 1925, son of Leo and Agnes Kramer Miller. He attended Gilroy and St. Andrew Grade School and graduated Tipton High School in 1943. He served in the 70th Infantry Division U.S. Army (1943-1946) as a G2 Technician in the Pacific Theatre.
Elmer married Sara Knipp Oct. 17, 1946.
Elmer had a large array of work including cattle farming, Manor Bread route, Metropolitan Insurance, Miller Packing Plant, school bus driver, Tipton Mutual Insurance, building grandfather clocks and woodworking.
Volunteer work and interests were reading Harold Bell Wright and Zane Grey, bookkeeping at Nutrition Center, tour guiding at McClay Mansion, volunteering for Knights of Columbus Bingo and serving on the Tipton Oak Manor Board, attending Army reunions, writing his memoirs and daily journal, avid card playing, visiting shut-ins and serving as a 55+ year 4th Degree Knight and a lifetime member of American Legion.
Surviving are a son, Joe Miller and wife, Linda, of Boonville; daughters, Janice Moore and husband, Gerald, of Kansas City, Kan., Marilyn Speer and husband, Clifton, of Austin, Texas, Angie Uptergrove and husband, Perkins, of Camdenton, Cindy Bracht and husband, Ron, of Mexico; sisters, Martha Moss and husband, Bill, of Tipton and Loretta Colantonio and husband, Tom, of Marquette, Mich.; a brother, Robert E. Miller and wife, Judy, of Paola, Kan.; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara, in 2006 and an infant son, Daniel Miller.
The funeral service will be Saturday morning, March 6, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, Tipton. Visitation is Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
