Joseph Glenn Vance Sr., age 85 years of Centralia, died Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Monroe Manor Nursing Home, Paris.
He was born Sept. 21, 1924 in Monroe County near Paris the son of Chesta Melvel and Mary Lou Crutcher Vance.
On Sept. 7, 1945 he was married at First Christian Church, Centralia, to Stella Belcher and she survives.
Other survivors includes two sons, Joseph Glenn Vance Jr. and wife, Clara; Rodney Keith Vance and his wife, Mary Frances, all of Centralia; one daughter, Alicia (Vance) Biehl and husband, Ben, Boonville; five grandchildren, April Nixon and husband Richard, Columbia, Travis Frey, New Franklin, Jason Vance, Columbia, David Vance, Hannibal, Brian Vance, Centralia; three stepgrandchildren, Holly Spurling, Unionville, Lori Wray, Centralia, Matthew Biehl, Wentzville; two great-grandchildren, six stepgreat-grandchildren and five great-great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Catherine Ayer, Centralia, and Laura Jane McCullough, Ashland, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, an infant, Charles Robert Vance and Chester Melvel Vance.
Mr. Vance was a member of the First Christian Church where he was an Elder Emeritus.
He was a graduate of Centralia High School and served his country with honor in the United States Army during World War II.
He was a prosperous and proud retired farmer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at First Christian Church, Centralia. Officiating will be the Rev. Joe Jimerson, Pastor, First Christian Church, Centralia. Military Honors and interment will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens, Centralia. Visitation is from noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church.
The family suggests memorials to First Christian Church, 229 South Rollins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Davenport, Claude McDonald, Amos “Moe” Zoellers, Chester Fritch, Rex Johnson, Robert Hartel, Donald Burnett and Harold Burnett.
Pallbearers will be Gary White, Johnny Barnes, Dexter Hatfield, Dwight Herndon, Tony Bryson and Glenn Nevins.
Fenton Funeral Chapel, Centralia, is in charge of arrangements.
