Cathie Purvis
Catherine Mae Purvis, 61 of Martinsburg, died at 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008 at Golden Living Center/Gamma Road Lodge, Wellsville.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Martinsburg, with Father Greg Oligschlaeger officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Martinsburg. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. today at Myers Funeral Home, Wellsville, with a prayer service at 8 p.m.
Mrs. Purvis was born March 1, 1947 in Mexico, the daughter of Elmer Lee Calhoon and Mildred Helen Power Calhoon.
She married James Edward Purvis on Oct. 26, 1968 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Columbia.
Mrs. Purvis graduated from Hickman High School in 1965. She was a homemaker/housewife, a babysitter, and worked at Beacon Shoe Factory and was a sales clerk for the Kwik Store. She lived at her current resident over 40 years. She loved tole painting, needlecraft, working puzzle books and reading. She was a member of Ladies Sodality and the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg.
Survivors include her husband, James Edward “Jim” Purvis, Martinsburg; daughters and son-in-law, Michelle “Shelly” and Cary Carroz, Montgomery City, and Suzette “Susie” Purvis, Columbia; four grandchildren, Nicole and Christopher Carroz, Montgomery City, and Brittney and Brineja “Brie” Tucker, Columbia; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Corless and Larry Vomund, Martinsburg, and Ann and Dell Goosey, Centralia; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Barbara Calhoon, Centralia; mother-in-law, Alleta Purvis, Martinsburg; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lee and Thelma Purvis Jr., Martinsburg, Ray and Donna Purvis, Jefferson City, and Tammy Purvis, Martinsburg; several nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; father-in-law, Lee Purvis Sr.; and brother-in-law, Charles “Charlie” Purvis.
Memorials may be made to Cancer Research or St. Joseph Parish

George Cottingham
George E. Cottingham, 70, of Tucumcari, N.M., formerly of Mexico, died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, at his home.
No services are planned.
Pickering Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
