Billie Lee Barnes
Billie Lee Barnes, 85 of Mexico, died at 6:03 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008 at Audrain Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Arnold Funeral Home with Robin Thompson officiating. Visitation is tonight from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Billie was born Dec. 10, 1922 in Ardmore, Okla., the daughter of William G. and Bessie Lee (Mayes) Phillips. On Jan. 17, 1942 in Mexico, she married John Haymart. She later married Leslie Ray Barnes on Dec. 14, 1957 in Mexico. He died on Feb. 28, 1999.
Mrs. Barnes was a member of Kentucky Road Christian Church. She had worked for Florsheim Shoe Company for 28 years. In her younger days, she loved to fish and make quilts. She loved having a vegetable garden and canning with her husband.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth King and husband, John, of Mexico and Sandra L. Barnes of Mexico; four grandchildren, Kevin (Shari) Bell of Auxvasse, Candy (John) Beatty of Albany, Ga., Cody Barnes of Lake Ozark and Dustin Hildebrand of Lake Ozark; four stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, James Phillips and wife, Sarah, of Mexico.
Billie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, William G. Phillips Jr; two sisters, Vivian Dunivent and Bettie Bishop; one grandson, William Bell; and one great-grandson, Jake Lee Bell.

Frances E. Morris
Frances E. Morris, 82 of Mexico, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008 at Pin Oaks Nursing Center. Frances was born on Dec. 7, 1925 in Big Springs to Elton B. and Leona (Jones) Ham.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Mexico United Methodist Church with Rev. Dale Stone officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Burial Park in Hannibal. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Arnold Funeral Home.
On Dec. 7, 1946 Frances married Charles M. Anderson in Hannibal; he preceded her in death on March 18, 1975. Dec. 24, 1977 Frances married Orval E. Morris in Mexico; he preceded her in death on July 21, 2005.
Frances attended the Union School (one room school) in Montgomery County, and graduated from Montgomery City High School. She later graduated from Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe.
Mrs. Morris worked for the A.P. Green Refractories for 38 years in the Purchasing-Storeroom Dept., and at the time of her retirement she was Supervisor of the Storeroom.
Frances was active in many areas of the Mexico United Methodist Church, and best remembered for the many years she chaired the Christmas Booth at the annual bazaar. She was Past Matron of the Mexico Chapter No. 354 of the Order of the Eastern Star and a charter member of the Central Missouri Chapter of Ex-Prisoners of War.
Mrs. Morris is survived by a son Jay Morris and wife Judy of Billings; a brother Jake Ham and wife Florence of Montgomery City; a nephew, Terry Ham and wife Diana of Florence, Ky.; a niece Lori Seidel and husband, Perry, two great-nieces, Karinna and Alyssa Seidel, all of Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Karilyn Morris of New York City, N.Y.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mexico United Methodist Church.

Lyle D. Votaw
Funeral services for Lyle D. Votaw, 78, Lawrence, Kan., were held at 10 a.m. today at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, Lawrence. Burial was in Hesper Cemetery, southeast of Eudora.
Mr. Votaw died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 23, 1930 in Eudora, the son of Milo H. and Angie Marie Vitt Votaw. He attended Prairie Center, White and Woodlawn schools.
Mr. Votaw worked as a pasteurizer for Lawrence Sanitary/All Star Diary for 42 years. After the dairy closed, he went to work at the Douglas County Judicial and Law Enforcement Center as a custodian for 10 years.
He married Elizabeth R. Leach on Jan. 5, 1955 in Mexico, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a son, Lynn and wife, Anna, Lawrence; two daughters, Beverly Gardner and husband, Don “Red Dog,” and Linda Nelson, all of Lawrence; three brothers, Leslie, Howe, Texas, Ivan and companion Evelyn Hopson, Lawrence, and Merlyn and wife Justine, Quapaw, Okla; a sister, Darlene Naff and husband, Bill, Lawrence; and two grandchildren, Nick and Casey Nelson.
The family suggests memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or Parkinson’s Disease Association, in care of the funeral home.

Jewell L. Slater
Jewell Lorena Slater, 100, of Mexico, died at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, September 20, 2008, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Jones officiating. Visitation will be tonight from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will also receive friends an hour prior to the funeral Tuesday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Slater was born May 18, 1908, in Benton City, the daughter of John W. and Nannie (Hildebrand) Hampton. On October 20, 1929, in Benton City she married William Stanley Slater who died June 24, 1972.
She and her husband farmed in the Martinsburg area for many years, moving to Mexico in 1949. She was a member of Lockewood Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter Lorena Davenport and husband Robert H., Mexico; one daughter-in-law, Lola Slater, Auxvasse; four grandchildren, Mona Leonard and husband Gary, Mexico, Shirley Owen and husband Bob, Mexico, Dwayne Davenport and wife Carol, Farmersville, Texas, and Elizabeth Durlin, Auxvasse; nine great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Rellas and Herbert Hampton, one son, Stanley W. Slater, Jr., one grandson, William Alan, and one great-great grandson, Damon Owen.

Alicia Maskey
Alicia Schafer Maskey, 20, of Silverdale, Wash., formerly of Martinsburg, died at 3:39 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Bremerton Naval Hospital in Bremerton, Wash.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg.
Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 8 p.m. at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.

MONTGOMERY CITY – E. Catherine Clark, 76, of rural Montgomery City died today, Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at her home.

WELLSVILLE – Graveside services for Grace Wenger Tindall Clark, 89, and Howard Duane Tindall, 92, of Menlo Park, Calif., will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Wellsville Cemetery.
