Marcia Lee Howard, 86, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Mexico and Palmyra, Mo., passed away at 12:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at St. Luke's Northland Hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Marcia was born July 25, 1923 in Palmyra, Mo. to Moritz Lewis and Margaret Kiziah Ensminger Happel. Marcia married Clifford Stephens Howard May 12, 1946 in Palmyra, Mo. He preceded her in death March 7, 1990.
She is survived by a daughter, Debbie Kobos of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Wanda Yager of Palmyra; sister-in-law, Elsie Happel of Palmyra, nieces and nephews, Sharon Burwinkle, Gary Owsley, Marianne Collins, Susan Selden, Ann Humphreys, Janet Happel, Priscilla Casey, Kenny Graf, and Walter Graf, great-nieces and nephews, and grandcats, Casey, Sabbath, and Tanner. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother, Maurice Happel, sister, Marjorie Robison, nieces, Marcia Pontius and Carol Happel, and grandcat, Spock.
Mrs. Howard was an office manager for the University of Missouri Extension Center in Mexico for many years. She was a member of Palmyra Eastern Star, Business and Professional Womens Organization, Mexico, and served as state president for 2 years. Marcia was past president of Audrain Medical Center Auxiliary in Mexico and was an active member of A.A.R.P. in Mexico.
She attended Todd Country School, was a graduate of Palmyra High School, attended Culver Stockton College and was graduate of Gem City Business College.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Palmyra.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, 2010 at Lewis Brothers Funeral Chapel in Palmyra. Rev. Terry Buster will officiate. Family and friends will gather from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at Lewis Brothers. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Gary Owsley, Keil Burwinkle, Mike Pontius, Andy Burwinkle, Corey and Jared Pontius, and Kenny and Walter Graf.
