Eleanor L. Roegge
Eleanor L. Roegge, 80 of Paris, passed away suddenly at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009
Mrs. Roegge was born on July 1, 1929 in Morgan County, Ill., the daughter of Everett and Arpha Mason. She graduated from Jacksonville Ill. High School in 1948 and married John Henry Roegge of Arenzville on Feb. 19, 1949. They farmed at various locations in central Illinois, and Mrs. Roegge worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Francis Angel in Jacksonville. In 1963, she moved with her family to Monroe County, Mo., and in 1967, they purchased their own farm north of Paris. In addition to assisting with the farming operation, she worked for the Monroe County Extension Service as a nutrition aide, helping families learn to cook economically and grow their own garden produce. Her love of books lead her to library work. In 1973, she became the head librarian for the Dulaney Public Library in Paris, where she served for 33 years until her retirement in 2006. Mrs. Roegge also served as a 4-H leader in the Paris community, receiving an award for meritorious service to 4-H in 1971. She was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mexico, the Monroe County Double I Literary Club, the Monroe County Historical Society and the county Democratic club. After retirement, she enjoyed the activities and comraderie of the Paris Senior Center.
Mrs. Roegge is predeceased by her husband, who died in 2003. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Breck Thompson of Moberly, Kathleen and Judge Michael Wilson and Anita and Ron Dunkle, both of Paris; two sisters, Phyllis (Jim) Hembrough of Winchester, Ill. and Mildred (Joe) Wilson of Lynnville, Ill.; five grandchildren, Shanna (Dunkle) (Brandon) Ferguson, Nathan (Michelle) Wilson, Philip Dunkle, Mariah Thompson Lute and Chasity Thompson and three great-grandchildren, Alexis Thompson, Reese Ferguson and Natalie Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mexico with Pastor Joel Krueger officiating and Agnew Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Agnew Funeral Home in Paris and from 12:30 to time of service on Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery at Paris.
Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Paris Public Library or the Paris Senior Center.
