Ardath Moore
Former Mexicoan, Ardath Moore, passed away in Scottsdale, Ariz. on Friday, June 12, 2009. She was 92. Born Ardath Ochs on Feb. 28, 1917, she came to Mexico from Lake View, Iowa with a stop in Chillicothe, Mo. to attend Chillicothe Business College. When she finished school she was offered a position at AP Green and, subsequently, moved to Mexico in 1937. It was there she met Lewis (Meng) Moore, who would become her husband on New Years Eve, 1938. Meng and Ardath would continue to live, prosper, and raise their family in Mexico until they both decided to retire in 1979 and move to Las Vegas, Nev. Ardath spent her career in Mexico working for AP Green and then Citizens Savings and Loan, while Meng spent his time running Moore’s Grocery along with his brother Earl. In 1993 the Moores moved to Scottsdale, Ariz. to be near family and live out the remainder of their golden years. Ardath was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, in 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Marian Neff, of Scotts Valley, Calif.; her son, Roger Moore, of Scottsdale, Ariz; and her grandchildren, Matthew Neff and Elizabeth Neff, also of Scotts Valley, Calif.
Ardath lived a very long, happy, and healthy life. She was fiercely independent and lived that way until the very last day. She was an amazing lady and will be greatly missed by family and friends, alike.
Betty Isgrig
Betty Rose Isgrig, 78 of Mexico, died Saturday, June 20, 2009 at her home.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Arnold Funeral Home. Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation is Tuesday from 6-8.
She was born on Feb. 1, 1931 in Audrain County, the daughter of Thomas O. and Dolly Williams. She married Melburn H. Isgrig on April 22, 1950 in Sturgeon. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1993.
Betty was a homemaker and farm wife and also worked at A.B. Chance for 20 years.
Survivors include two sons, Ed Isgrig and Bobby Isgrig, both of Columbia. She is also survived by four grandsons, Raymond Isgrig and Paul Isgrig of Mexico, Mark Isgrig of Auxvasse, Matt Curtis of Ashland; eight great-grandchildren; and five sisters, Ellen, Helen, Opal, Doris, and Bertha.
In addition to her husband Melburn and her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Howard Ray Isgrig, and two brothers, Arthur and Earl Williams.

G.A. Harlinger
G.A. Harlinger, age 82 of Mexico, formerly of Bowling Green, passed away Saturday, June 21, 2009 at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Mudd-Veach Funeral Home in Bowling Green with Rev. Randall Cone officiating. Burial will be in the Bowling Green Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
He was born June 25, 1925 in Frankford, the son of Gerald D. and Cornelia Springer Harlinger. He married Marie Henderson in Vandalia. She preceded him in death July 1998. Survivors include one sister Delores Wilson and husband Pete; one aunt Jewell Mason and two nieces, Lawanah Gillette and Tonya Herman, all of Mexico.
Mr. Harlinger served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He worked for his father in the electrical business for several years in Bowling Green then moved to Fort Meyers, Fla. where he worked as an electrician for Lee County until his retirement. Upon his retirement he returned to Bowling Green. He then moved to Mexico due to his illness. He enjoyed fishing and he and his wife loved to travel. He was a member of the Bowling Green Presbyterian Church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Raufer, Mark Raufer, Pete Wilson and Paul Gillette.

Lois Jo Hodges
PERRY-Services for Lois Jo Hodges, 83, of Perry will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009 at the Perry Christian Church with Reverend David Todd officiating. Burial will be in Lick Creek Cemetery, Perry.
Visitation will be Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church. Arrangements were entrusted to Bienhoff Funeral Home, Perry.
Mrs. Hodges passed away at 1:20 a.m. June 19, 2009 at Tri-County Care Center in Vandalia.
She was born April 14, 1926 in Perry, the daughter of Robert Granville and Edna Ellis Carter.
She was married to Bobby Joe Hodges on November 24, 1947 in Davenport, Iowa, and he preceded her in death March 25, 1996.
Survivors include: one son and his wife, Gary and Debbie Hodges of Perry; two grandsons and their wives, Scott and Ashley Hodges, and Mark and Amy Hodges, all of Perry; one great granddaughter, Rachel Hodges of Perry.
She was preceded in death by an infant son; one daughter, Tracey Hodges; three brothers, Memerial Carter, Robert Carter and Kenneth Carter; and one sister, Reva Sue Nett.
Mrs. Hodges was a lifetime area resident and homemaker. She was a 1944 graduate of the Perry High School. She was a member of the Perry Christian Church, the ladies' CWF, the VFW Auxiliary Post 4088, the Entre Nous Club, the Eastern Star, and the El Martez Club. She loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed going to church and all the activities that went on there. She was a wonderful cook and especially liked to bake pies, cookies and cakes.

Pallbearers will be John R. Carter, Steve Carter, Cary Nett, Bobby McCreery, John Roy Chipman, Greg Harrison, Brian Hodges, Bruce Coleman, and Dean Harrison.
William A. Showers
William A. “Bill” Showers, 85, of Mexico, died Saturday, June 20, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Pickering Funeral Home in Mexico with Martin Stukenburg officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 p.m. until service time. There will also be a service in Lebanon, Ind., at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Myers Mortuary. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
Bill was born on July 26, 1923 in Ft. Branch, Ind. He was the first born son of William L. and Theota M. (Austin) Showers. At the age of five he moved to Chicago, Ill. where his father attended Moody Bible Institute. After four years his family moved to southern Kentucky where his father started several churches. Bill returned to Shiloh Baptist Church periodically until the time of his death. He lived in Princeton and Owensville, Ind. until departing for service in the army in January of 1941. He married Amileta Eileen Stevens in 1943 in Princeton, Ind. before departing for Europe in August of 1944. Upon his return they lived in Princeton and Lebanon, Ind. prior to settling in Barrington, Ill. They then lived in Hebron, Ill.; Frankfort, Ind. Amileta preceded him in death on October 4, 1995.
Bill was Vice President of Sales with EBSCO Industries until his retirement. Bill returned to National Guard service in 1948 and spent 29 years as a reservist with periodic active duty before retiring as a Colonel of Artillery in 1977. After retirement, he actively pursued his interest in Arabian horses. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was active in volunteer services at the Missouri Veterans’ Home, was a two term president of the ABC Seniors Group at First Baptist Church, which he attended, and was a board member at the Handi-Shop, where he also served as president of the board for two terms.
He married Carol Jean Hebel on October 18, 1997 in St. Charles, Ill. They made their home in Mexico. In addition to Carol he is survived by his five children; Gary (Ann) Showers, Oldsmar, Fla.; Jon (Elaine) Showers, Woodstock, Ill.; Charles (Laura) Showers, Fulton, Tim Showers, Mexico, Jill (Bill) McCaw, Martinsburg; two stepchildren, Scott (Natalie) Hebel , Mason, Ohio and Nancy Wilson, Mexico; eight grandchildren, Dusty and Heather Showers, Oldsmar, Fla., Josh (Roberta) Swanson, Bisbee, Ariz., Kristi Showers, Schaumburg, Ill., Jacob Showers, Fulton; Kristen and Shannon Hebel, Mason, Ohio; Holly Wilson, Mexico; and four great-grandchildren, Kinsey and Tegan Showers, and Alex and Sabina Swanson.
In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert Showers, and one sister Ruth Ann Showers.

Edith Marie Yelton, 83, of Wellsville died at 4:40 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2009, at Golden Living Center/Pin Oaks in Mexico.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today at the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville with burial in the Wellsville Cemetery.

Mary Lee Hiton, 75, of Mexico died at 3:04 p.m., Sunday, June 21, 2009, at Audrain Medical Center.
