Virgil Duncan
Virgil Allen Duncan, 83 of Mexico, died at 11:15 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Audrain Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Arnold Funeral Home with Dr. David Leslie officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Virgil was born April 5, 1926 in Higbee, the son of Charles Arnold and JoElla (Sharp) Duncan. On May 17, 1947 in Moberly, he married Mary Sylvia Gravitt. She survives.
Mr. Duncan was a member of Kentucky Road Christian Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1944-1946. Virgil had owned and operated the Duncan Conoco Station, delivered fuel for the Co-Op and was a security guard for several places.
In addition to his wife, Sylvia, he is survived by four children, Larry A. Duncan and wife, Theresa, of New Florence, Ronald L. Duncan of Mexico, Brenda F. Deppe and husband, Steve, of Mexico and Kevin W. Duncan and wife, Krista, of Mexico; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Billie Gene Duncan of Mexico.
Virgil was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Mae Perkins and three brothers, Roscoe Warren Duncan, Edward Arnold Duncan and Samuel Lee Duncan.
Memorials may be made to the Missouri Veteran’s Home, Kentucky Road Christian Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Leo Schafer
Leo Albert Schafer, 91 of Martinsburg, died at 3:20 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Martinsburg, with Father Greg Oligschlaeger officiating. Margie Wieberg will serve as organist. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Martinsburg. Visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Funeral Home, Wellsville, with the rosary being recited at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Schafer was born Jan. 21, 1918 in Martinsburg, the son of Charles Joseph Schafer and Elizabeth Theresa Fennewald Schafer.
He was a self-employed farmer. He had lived at his current residence since 1973 and was a lifelong resident of Martinsburg with the exception of 5 years he spent in Quincy, Ill. working on a farm. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, joining in 1943 and the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Martinsburg.
Survivors include two sisters, Agnes Mary Elizabeth Schafer, Martinsburg, and Sister Verona Schafer, St. Louis; brothers and sisters-in-law, Edmund William “Ed” Schafer, Martinsburg, Paul Charles and Beatrice “Betty” Schafer, Martinsburg, and Ruth Clare “Toots” Schafer, Martinsburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mathilda Mary Schafer and Sister Mary Martha Schafer; and two brothers, Joseph Adolph Schafer and John Clarence Schafer.
