Vernon Gene “Van” VanEngelenhoven, 61, of Kingdom City, passed away at his home on Wednesday, June 17, 2009, after his long battle with lung cancer. He was born February 12, 1948 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of the late Harley James and Angeline Beatrice (Bennink) Engelenhoven. On May 16, 1970 he was united in marriage to Linda Lou (Stephens) VanEngelenhoven who survives at their home.
In addition to his wife of 39 years, he will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by four children, Jennifer Van-Engelenhoven, Melissa Van-Engelenhoven (Adams), Jesse VanEngelenhoven, and Kelly VanEngelenhoven; an honorary child, Janah Ebbert; six grandchildren, Zachary Adams, Tim-othy Adams, Rachel Van-Engelenhoven, Daisy Adams, Amelia Van-Engelenhoven, and Lilly Adams; honorary grandchildren, Sarah Ebbert, Jeffery Ebbert, Mary Ebbert (Case-bolt), Issac Ebbert, and Rebekah Ebbert; one brother, Orley VanEngelenhoven; one sister, Elaine VanEngelenhoven (Wilson); other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Bonnie VanEngelenhoven (McClure).
Vernon owned and operated Van’s Garage and Towing in Kingdom City since 1972. He served our country as a heavy equipment mechanic and expert rifleman during a 16 month tour in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he received a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He enjoyed running tow trucks and his business. He was elected to two terms on the city council for Kingdom City where he loved working to grow the city. He also loved spending time  with his grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1603 Kingswood Drive, Fulton, Mo. with Bishop Spencer Palmer conducting. President Michael J. Reall will be speaking with Gary Nevels reading the eulogy. Visitation will be from 4p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 19, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton, and from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the church. Interment will be held at the Auxvasse Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Vernon VanEngelenhoven Memorial Fund, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251. Wanda “Sally” Fisher
Wanda “Sally” Fisher, 68, of Mexico, died at 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at Fulton Nursing and Rehab in Fulton.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Mayson officiating. Visitation will be from noon until service time on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Fisher was born on Feb. 11, 1941, in Mexico, the daughter of Martha McDonald Sidney and John Edward Ozell Barrett Jr. On April 26, 1962, in Kansas City, she married Harold Edward Fisher who survives. She had worked as a secretary for Northwest Airlines in Minneapolis, Minn. until her retirement in 2000, when she returned to Mexico. She loved to travel and was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her mother, Martha Sidney, Mexico; two stepsons, Greg Crews, Dallas, Texas, and Dexter Lee West, Lawrence, Kans.; one stepdaughter, Debbie Crews, Minneapolis, Minn.; one stepbrother Jewell Cannon, Phoenix, Ariz.; six step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her father, stepfather Jewell Sidney, and a brother, James Edward Miller preceded her in death.

Howard R. Sims
Graveside services with a Masonic service and military honors for Howard R. Sims, 88, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Horeb Cemetery in Sturgeon.
Mr. Sims died Feb. 17, 2009, at William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay, Fla.
Fenton Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Jean Coose
Norma Jean Coose, 81, of Vandalia died at 7:50 a.m. today, Thursday,  June 18, 2009, at Boone Hospital Center.
Services are pending at Waters Funeral Home, Vandalia.
