Nellie Burke Ward
Nellie Burke Ward, age 98 years of Centralia, died July 6, 2009 at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia.
She was born June 5, 1911 near Madison, the daughter of Claude W. and Iva M. Johnston Burke.
On June 27, 1931 she was married in Montrose, Iowa to Clyile Austene Ward. He preceded her in death Sept. 13, 1999.
Survivors include a son, Harold Eugene Ward and his wife, Sue, Centralia; daughter, Sharon Lee McLaughlin and her husband, Gerald, Columbia; three granddaughters, Julie Ann Beasley, Ft. Myers, Fla., Cynthia Gebhardt and Lisa Freet, both of Columbia; five great-grandchildren; three nieces; one nephew; and one cousin, Thelma Mears Comstock, Fountain Hills, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Calvin Burke and Pearl Elmer Burke; one sister, Opal Marie Holder; and a great-granddaughter.
Nellie was an active member of the First Baptist Church, Centralia, also, the Fidelis Sunday School Class, WMU and the JOY Group.
Her parents died when she was eight years old and she was raised by her father’s cousin and wife, Will J. and Minnie Mears, near Madison. She was a devoted and loving family member and a caring homemaker. She will be sadly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at Fenton Funeral Chapel, Centralia. Officiating will be Dr. Larry Lewis, Interim Pastor, First Baptist Church and Rev. Clyde Chiles, Senior Adult Minister, First Baptist Church, Centralia. Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the time of service Thursday at the Fenton Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens, Centralia.
The family suggests memorials to First Baptist Church, Centralia.
Pallbearers will be Del Gebhardt, Gerald McLaughlin, Joe Gebhardt, Dwight McKenzie, Al Welch and Emil Henry.

Elsie Jackson
Elsie Mae Jackson, 93 of Mexico, formerly of Wellsville, died at 12:07 p.m. Monday, July 6, 2009 at Audrain Medical Center, Mexico.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, at Myers Funeral Home, Wellsville, with Pastor Mark Spence officiating. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, Myers Funeral Home, Wellsville.
Mrs. Jackson was born Dec. 12, 1915 at Hawk Point, the daughter of Frederick William Dorman and Huldia Louise Neumann Dorman.
On Dec. 20, 1936 in Wright City, she married Joseph Hickerson “Tobe” Jackson. He preceded her in death on June 18, 1983.
Survivors include three children and spouses, Dorothy Mae and Gary Gooch, Mineola, Charles Frederick and Yvonne Jackson, Mexico, and Huldia Elizabeth Cox, Fulton; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Bott, Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph Hickerson “Tobe” Jackson; son, Eugene Joseph “Gene” Jackson; son-in-law, Lewis “Butch” Cox; four grandsons, Randall Wayne “Randy” Gooch, Charles Frederick Jackson II, Michael Allen Jackson, and James Clark Jackson; and one great-grandson, Casey Glen Williams.
Memorials may be made to the Wellsville Cemetery Association.

Laura J. Nichols
Laura J. Nichols, 85, of Junction City, Kan., died Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Geary Community Hospital in Junction City, Kan.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Mexico. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Visitation is from 10-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
Arnold Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
