Roy James Heying, 75, of Portland, Mo., dies

Roy James Heying, 75 of Portland, Mo., passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 at Boone Hospital, Columbia.
Mr. Heying was born in Rhineland, Mo. on March 7, 1934, the son of the late Sylvan and Alma (Van Booven) Heying.
He was the husband of Opal (Wilks) Trammell-Heying, they were united in marriage on Feb. 11, 1982 at Brazito, Mo., she survives in Portland.
He is also survived by his children, daughter Cindy Hostetler and husband Jim of St. Charles, son Steve Heying of St. Peters, son Rich Heying of St. Peters, daughter Susie Mansfield and husband Matt of Chesterfield, daughter Diana Kriete of Alabama, daughter Jane Sydenstricker of Portland, sister Verneil Baumstark and husband Charles of Hermann, brother Larry Heying and wife Marge of Imperial, sister Mae Birk and husband Vernon “Pee Wee” of Hermann, brother Monty Heying of Wright City, sister Sharon Butenhoff of St. Louis, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He worked as a quality control engineer for General Motors for over 30 years where he retired from the Wentzville plant. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Jefferson City Eagles and the AM Vets in Mokane.
Funeral services will be held at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 p.m. at Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home, Hermann. Burial will be in Portland Cemetery, Portland, Mo. with full military honors.
Memorials may be given to Portland Cemetery or American Heart Association, c/o Toedtmann & Grosse Funeral Home.
