Howard Barker
Howard W. Barker, 71, of Mexico, died at 8:42 p.m. June 9, 2009, at his home in Mexico.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Kentucky Road Christian Church with Pastor Jonathan Ingram and Rev. Eldon Wilson officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at Pickering Funeral Home. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Mr. Barker was born on March 7, 1938, in Mexico, a son of Paul Arvin and Genevieve Lee (Smith) Barker. On Aug. 14, 1960, in Mexico, he married Shirley Gibbons, who survives at the home. He operated his own farm for more than 30 years, and for the past 18 years has been manager of Fish Branch Angus Farms. He and his wife also owned and operated Puppy Love Haven until 2002, and for many years he operated a feed and Nachurs fertilizer business.
He loved spending time with his grandkids, and his life centered around his church and family. He was a charter member of Kentucky Road Christian Church, where he was very active and served as an Elder. He and his wife were also the church’s first youth leaders. He was a member of the Pork Producers and National Farmer Organization. He and his wife served as foster parents for many children. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, major league baseball, and rodeos.
In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Dan Barker and wife Robin, Mexico; one daughter, Debbie Barker Usnick and husband Tom, Mexico; one brother Lyndal Barker and wife Ruthie, Benton City, two sisters, Shirley Kruse and husband Norman, Hyattsville, Md., and Beverley Whitaker, Tallahassee, Fla.; six grandchildren, Robert and wife Kristin Usnick, Christopher and wife Samantha White, Emily, Katie and Casey Usnick, and Mia and Daniel Barker; four great grandchildren; and his step-mother, Rheva Tratchel, Mexico.
His step-father, Robert Tratchel, parents and two great grandchildren preceded him in death.

Fritz Wenger Jr.
Funeral services for Fritz Wenger, Jr., 87, of Mexico, formerly of Eolia and Louisiana, Mo. will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at Collier Funeral Home in Louisiana. The Rev. Randall Cone will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2:30 p.m. until time of services at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Eolia City Cemetery in Eolia. Mr. Wenger passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the Missouri Veterans’ Home in Mexico.
He was born March 15, 1922 in Benton City, to Fritz John Wenger, Sr. and Martha Sallee Stauffer Wenger.
He married Kathryn Howdeshell Akers on Jan. 24, 1959 at the First Presbyterian Church in Louisiana and she preceded him in death Sept. 12, 1988.
Fritz is survived by one sister, Rona Lee (Wenger) Wilson and husband, Clifford, of Mexico; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Sue Quinn (Mike) of Vandalia and Sally Ann Maynard (Darrel) of the state of Florida; one stepson, Kenneth Lee Kerns of Smithville; stepgrandchildren; stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert E. Wenger and Donald D. Wenger; two sisters, Virginia Riechers and Betty Moore; and one stepson, Jerry Kerns.
He had farmed in the Louisiana area managing the Ed Glenn farms for a number of years.
He was a veteran of World War II serving with the Army Air Force in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines receiving the Philippine Liberation ribbon with one Bronze Star.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eolia. A lifetime member of VFW Post 5553 at Bowling Green and a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows Lodge No. 28 in Louisiana.

Joe Utterback
Joe Wernecke Utterback, 88 of Mexico, died at 1:22 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at Villages of St. Peters, St. Peters.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at Myers Funeral Home, Wellsville, with the Rev. Randall Sawyer officiating. Vivian Updyke will be the organist. Burial will be in Wellsville Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are his nephews, Chris Billmeyer, Mark Billmeyer, Mike Billmeyer, Kevin Bosley, Marty Bosley, Ed Carpenter, Dale Clithero, Gale Clithero, and Walter Taylor.
Mr. Utterback was born June 11, 1920 in Vandalia, the son of Harold Fay Utterback and Theresa Marie Rice Utterback.
On July 12, 1941, he married Esther Lee Kniepfel at the First Christian Church, Vandalia. She preceded him in death on Nov. 18, 1998.
Mr. Utterback was a 1938 graduate of Middletown High School. He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Kaiser Refractories for over 40 years. Since 1951, he had lived in Mexico and was a former member of the Lions Club and a member of the First Christian Church. He was an antique dealer, primarily in art, cut glass and fine china.
Joe served his country in the U.S. Army as a Pfc. He was honorably discharged on June 26, 1946. Joe was on the first landing on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day and was one of three of his landing party that survived. Joe was a courier for the Nuremberg Trials where he went to the concentration camps in Germany, picking up the documentation for the trials. He was a member of the Big Red One - First Infantry Division. He fought in the Black Forrest in Germany.
Joe received a Purple Heart Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon.
Survivors include his sister, Glennarice U. Carpenter, St. Peters; two sisters-in-law, Eldora Bosley, Montgomery City, and Elizabeth Clithero, Jefferson City; one niece, Kathleen J. Fabrio, St. Peters; six nephews and spouses, Walter F. and Rhonda Taylor, Denver, Colo., Rice E. “Ed” Carpenter, St. Peters, Marty Bosley, Columbia, Kevin and Jennifer Bosley, Dallas, Texas, Dale and Debbie Clithero, Nixa, and Gale and Susan Clithero, Springfield; and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Esther Lee Utterback; and nephew, Robert L. Taylor.
