Missouri Military Academy split in two recent basketball games, avenging a loss in the first game.
The varsity Colonels defeated Marion County 47-37 on Wednesday in Centennial Gymtorium.
“This was the second time we played Marion County, and the first time they beat us by 20 points,” said MMA coach Lt. Toby Henry. “This time we won by 10, and it was a good team effort.”
Leading scorers for MMA were Jared Roberts, Ty Armer and Siheng (Henry) Lei with 10 points apiece.
The Colonels hosted Douglass for the second time Friday night, again losing a close game on late free throws, 55-45.
Douglass pulled away from an 8-4 first-quarter lead to post an 18-7 advantage before the Colonels closed to 20-17 at halftime. MMA edged within three several times in the second half before Douglass pulled away late.
“It was close the whole game,” said Lt. Henry. “Our team played extremely hard and didn't quit.”
Derek Kantorski (10P), Roberts (8P) and Robert Carrillo (10P) led the Colonels, who travel to Jamestown tonight.
