Tuesday was Senior Night for Mexico High School wrestlers at Gooch Gym. It was another short match due to open weight classes as often has been the case for the Bulldogs this winter, but it was definitely exciting.
The Bulldogs came up with all their points by dominating the middle and upper weight classes to claim a 42-34 varsity victory over NCMC rival Fulton. The dual win was their third in a row and improved the Mexico record to 4-3 overall and 3-3 conference.
“It was another short but exciting night for us,” MHS coach Nick Hoth said. “It was Senior Night and unfortunately senior Patrick Enslen didn’t have a match to wrestle.
“Fellow senior Lindell Taylor lost a very exciting match to top-ranked Ryan Fritz at 160 pounds. But we were able to fight back late in the match and pull out a victory.”
The date ended the NCMC schedule for the Bulldogs, who compete in a double dual along with Missouri Military Academy at Centralia on Thursday.
Then comes preparations for the Class 2/District 2 tournament Feb. 12-13 at Mexico High School. That’s when berths will be decided in the MSHSAA state tournament Feb. 18-20 in Columbia.

The Mexico Youth Wrestling Club hosted a dual meet Tuesday night at Gooch Gym with the Fulton Wrestling Club prior to Mexico High School action with Fulton. In all, 24 wrestlers took to the mat.
