The Missouri Military Academy Colonels rallied in the third quarter and pulled away to a 66-52 victory over Tuscumbia in basketball action Monday night in Centennial Gymtorium.
“The game was a good one,” said coach Lt. Toby Henry of the Colonels’ fifth win. “The boys played the best team basketball we have played all year. Everyone hustled the whole game and everyone contributed. It was a good game to get us ready for district.”
Sophomore post Jared Roberts led MMA with 27 points and 15 rebounds. Senior guard Ty Armer and junior wings Matt Hoyer, Wen Hsin (Jimmy) Chang and Siheng (Henry) Lei provided strong defense.
MMA jumped out to a 12-2 lead before the Lions closed to 12-11 after the first frame. Tuscumbia led by as many as five in the second stanza before taking a 25-21 lead into intermission.
Maj. Michael Pemberton’s charges held on to win the jayvee game 28-26 in a contest shortened to one half. Sophomores Luke McKay and Trent Whisnant paced the Colonels.
The Colonels host Higbee at 6 p.m. Thursday to close the regular season.
PARIS GIRLS: At home Tuesday against L&C rival Fayette, the 13-9/6-3 Lady Coyotes got 15P/4S/6A from Tessa Henderson, 11P/3A from Payton Gruber and 9P/13R/3S and 3 blocks from Amanda DeOrnellas in a 55-24 victory. Paris led 28-9 at half.
NORCAL BOYS: The 14-9/6-3 Thunderbirds beat visiting Mid-Mo rival Hallsville 62-43 Tuesday behind a 26-4 third quarter. Brendan Borman netted 17P, Jake Lasley, Keaton Oestreich 13P apiece for North Callaway. The T-Birds won the JV game 55-23 to move to 12-4.
