CROSS COUNTRY: Four Missouri Military Academy runners competed in the Warrenton Invitational on Friday.
Senior Thomas Clubb led the Colonels with a season-best 19:29 for 29th place and senior Glenn Petty was 41st in 20:50. Carlos Patino was 56th and Brandon Blackmore finished 62nd in the 11-team field.
“The Warrenton meet is tough because it is run on a hilly course,” said MMA coach Maj. Lawrence McClarey. Still, Clubb, Patino and Blackmore all established personal bests. “Clubb ran an exceptional race. He loves hills, and is the iron man of this team.”

SWIMMING: MMA nearly pulled off its first win of the season Friday with a close 77-73 loss at Hannibal.
“This was a very close meet which was decided in the last event,” said MMA coach Maj. Michael Pemberton. “Our team won 3 events and established 7 personal bests against a very good team.”
Sophomore Matt Doughty won the 50-meter freestyle in 26.8 secondsand junior Doug Dieckgraefe won the 100-meter breaststroke in 1:24.1.
Also winning for the Colonels (0-3) was the 400-meter freestyle relay foursome of Xin Rui Zhao, Si Chan Law, Nick Helverson and Doughty in 4:39.6.

SOCCER: MMA dropped a 7-2 decision at state-ranked St. Paul Lutheran on Saturday.
The Colonels played short-handed – including without goalkeeper Aldo Sanchez (SAT test) and coach Capt. Ali Syed (National Guard duty) – and had just two substitutes.
Juan Pablo De Esesarte and Zach Gustafson scored for the 6-2 Colonels, and Sung Chan (Daniel) Lee added an assist.
