January often is the month when the building blocks for February success are put into place in prep wrestling. With that in mind, Mexico High School matmen got plenty out of Saturday’s Marshall Invitational.
“We didn’t have a bad tournament,” MHS coach Nick Hoth commented. “We lost a few close matches which we thought we should have won, but for the most part the boys wrestled hard and are continuing to improve as we move closer to district and state.
“A few bright spots would have to be Monterio Burton, DeVonte Shivers and Josh Harlan all finishing second for us and wrestling very hard the entire tournament.”
Next up for the Bulldogs, who came in fifth among 8 teams, is a V/JV date Tuesday at NCMC rival Hannibal.
