Mexico High School softball girls saw action for the second day in a row, while golf and tennis girls made their season debuts Tuesday on the road.
Golfers resume play today and netters Thursday, turning the spotlight over to Bulldog footballers who start varsity play Friday at Hillsboro.
Details of the busiest day of the just-started fall season follow below.

MHS SOFTBALL: Crossing home plate a dozen times for the second time in 24 hours, the Lady Bulldogs improved their varsity record to 2-0 with a 12-5 triumph over Montgomery County at Gallop Field.
“We came out strong and aggressive again,” MHS coach Christina Gerber said. “We put runs on the board early and kept at it the entire game.
“It was another great win as we played at our intensity level,” she added. Her squad is idle until Tuesday when the Lady Bulldogs play host to NCMC rival Kirksville in another V/JV date.
Mexico came up with five runs in the first inning, four in the second and three in the third. Montgomery County scored three in the fourth, one in the fifth and one in the seventh. Kelsey Creed started for the Lady Bulldogs with Tessah Shaw taking over in the fifth.
Danielle Ingrum and Lexi Abbott hit RBI singles in the first; Anne Baker hit a 2-run double in the second, followed by RBI doubles by Abbott and Marissa Brown; Haley Fecht tripled for Mexico in the fourth.
Alex Cunningham got the win for the JV Lady Bulldogs, whose 29 runs in the first inning included three singles and an inside-the-park grand slam by Kaitlyn Ingrum. Darian Sims, Madison White and Brittany Bellamy each had doubles before the 35-0 short-game was over.

MHS TENNIS: At NCMC rival Fulton, the Lady Bulldogs roared out of the gate with a sweep of all six singles matches en route to a 10-2 varsity triumph. Mexico dominated doubles action by a 4-2 margin.
MHS coach Jan Hoth filed the following report.
“Fulton is a well-coached team and a tough competitor; I believe that we will continue to have great matches together as the season goes on. We take on Helias at home this Thursday.
“Our returning seniors comprised of Abby Orscheln, Carrie Finck and Ravin Palmer led the team to victories in singles and doubles, respectively. Our juniors saw Liesl Walser have a solid performance at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles. Lena Grubert is a pleasant competitve addition to our team and it was a joy to watch experience her first varsity victory.
“Our largest class are our sophomores. Caroline Finck and Kaitlyn Brooks both had definitive wins over their opponents and I look forward to seeing their progression as the season goes on. Cheryl Orscheln and Aaliyah Shivers had a tight match that they came up short in, though, I believe the next time they play a team like Fulton we will be a better team.
“Our newcomers are made up of the doubles team of Nandita Thapar, freshman, and Tiffany Jennings, sophomore; they had a close match that showed their greeness, but I am happy to say that they competed and fought back from a four-game deficit to lose in a tiebreaker. Heart is exciting to see in such a young team.
“I enjoyed watching our team compete and win. What sticks out in my mind the most is the support that the ladies gave one another on and off the court. I think that inter-team support played a huge part in pushing the girls to their first victory of the season. I am proud of the effort and poise that the ladies showed and I look forward to the rest of the season with this group of girls.”
