Friday night football returned over the weekend. Ledgerland highlights follow below.
NORCAL 20, ELDON 13: The Thunderbirds scored twice in the first quarter to take a 13-6 halftime lead, then scored again in the final period to open the season with a 20-13 triumph at Eldon.
Taylor West recovered a fumbled punt at the 1-yard line and Zak Kee took it in from there with less than 7 minutes remaining. Tylar Walker and Jared Graves teamed up on scoring passes of 4 and 12 yards to make it 13-0 NorCal after the first 12 minutes.
Walker completed 11 of 20 passes for 116 yards. Jacob Henricks led NorCal, which didn’t make a turnover, with 8 tackles.
CENTRALIA 41, LOUISIANA 7: A 29-point second period gave the visiting Panthers a 35-0 halftime lead en route to a 41-7 victory.
Dax Dollens was involved in each of the first five Centralia scores, throwing TD passes of 3 yards to Garrison Colston and 41 to Holden Meyers, then finding the end zone himself on runs of 6, 1 and 1 yards.
Dollens competed 8 of 15 passes for 174 yards with no interceptions. Meyers picked off a pair of Louisiana passes. Austin McCoy topped Centralia tacklers with a dozen.
MONROE CITY 46, PARIS 6: The host Panthers spoiled Tim Webster’s Paris coaching debut with points in every period. Monroe City led 20-0 at the half and kept the Coyotes off the scoreboard until Devin Vanlandingham’s 33-yard pass from Kable Ragsdale in the last quarter.
The Coyotes passed for 132 yards, but managed just 25 yards rushing. Alex Thomas was the Paris tackle leader with 15.
