Mexico High School cross country boys turned in another outstanding effort Thursday in the Moberly Invitational, claiming both top team and individual honors while bringing home 5 medals.
“Our varsity boys trounced all opposition again for a stunning victory,” MHS coach John Wilbers said. “The course was extremely hilly, much like the one we’ll run at Hannibal next week. Therefore, we have specifically been training for hills lately and it has paid off.
‘Although the hilly course makes many of our finish times appear slower, relative to the competition we were clearly in great stride and several on our team posted marked improvement.”
Hayden Legg of the Bulldogs led a field of 142 runners across the finish line with his 17:17 clocking for 5K. Also medaling for Mexico were Grant Zysk, seventh, 18:56; Drew McCoy, eighth, 19:01; Scott Barker, 10th, 19:10, and Sam Kelly, 14th, 19:43.
