A light Mexico High School sports schedule Monday saw the Lady Bulldogs bow to NCMC rival Boonville at home in tennis, while the football JV Bulldogs won at Monroe City.
GIRLS TENNIS: Boonville claimed an 8-4 varsity victory, dropping the Mexico record to 1-2 overall and 1-1 conference. The match came on the heels of Mexico’s participation in the Osage Invitational on Saturday.
“We’ve played a lot of tennis the past three days and the girls are discovering the areas in their game where we need to improve on,” MHS coach Jan Hoth said. “The girls are competing and constantly putting forth effort to better their game and that’s all anyone can ask.”

JV FOOTBALL: Doing all the scoring in the first half, the Bulldogs topped Monroe City 14-0 in one of just two junior varsity games on their schedule due to lack of numbers.
Cletez King scored on a 6-yard run, the conversion pass going from Matt Ridgway to Dillion Jerichow. Grady Frazier also scored on a 40-yard punt return.
“We played pretty well at times, but we also had the usual first-game mistakes,” MHS coach Dave Okenfuss said. “Our linebackers played well and so did our defensive ends.”
