Charlie Maupin edged Eugene Freels for top honors Thursday in the Mexico Parks & Recreation weekly horseshoe league.
Maupin went undefeated to get the nod over the once-beaten Freels. The free league meets each Thursday at 6 p.m. at Fairgrounds Park and is open to all comers.
Aug. 5 results: Charlie Maupin, Mexico, 7-0; Eugene Freels, Auxvasse, 6-1; Dan Hubbard, Centralia, 4-3 (60 LP); Sam Raps, Mexico, 4-3 (42 LP); Bo Oligschlaeger, Mexico, 4-3 (37 LP); Dean Ward, Mexico, 2-5; Joe Goodman, Centralia, 1-6.
Men’s softball
Registration is under way for the men’s fall slow-pitch softball league sponsored by the Mexico Parks & Recreation Department.
Registration and rosters must be turned in at city hall by 5 p.m. Monday. Team fee is $120 for a six-game minimum schedule. A managers meeting has been set for 7 p.m. Aug. 19 on the second floor of city hall.
