Bulldogs propped by first inning in 7-3 win vs T-Birds

Mexico's winning streak and early lead endured through seven innings Monday with Class 3 North Callaway.

The Bulldogs scored five runs in the first inning before eventually winning 7-3 at home, earning their fourth straight victory. North Callaway's four-game losing streak ended after its offense -- following 53 runs during its streak -- hit into a couple double plays that stalled potential big innings.

Brady Fox, who had five hits, four strikeouts and one earned run in 4 2/3 innings, induced two double plays his defense gobbled up in the second and fifth innings. Cooper Rowe relieved him with three strikeouts and one run on three hits in two innings, and Drew DeMint covered the final out for Mexico (8-6) with two runners on. Fox also had three RBI on two hits, Jaydon Eldridge went 2-for-3 with a RBI, and Kaden Benne, Sam Ryan and Cooper Bledsoe each picked up a RBI.

AJ Haubner pitched two shutout innings of relief for North Callaway (6-4) while allowing one hit and went 2-for-3 with a RBI two days aftr picking up his first career varsity hit. Carter Moore finished 2-for-3 with a RBI and allowed seven runs on eight hits and three walks in four innings pitched while striking out four. Caleb Sheets was also 2-for-3 with a double.

Mexico (2-2 NCMC) hosts North Central Missouri Conference foe Marshall (2-8, 0-3 NCMC) at 5 p.m. Tuesday after winning 12-0 at Marshall earlier this season. North Callaway (3-0 EMO) plays at Eastern Missouri Conference foe Elsberry (4-5, 2-0 EMO) at 5 p.m. Thursday.
