Van-Far golf attending state tournament as a team

Van-Far will be going to state together.

For the first time since the third-place team in 2019, Van-Far is sending a team to the state tournament. After finishing second in Friday's Class 1 District 2 Tournament at Heritage Hills Golf Course in Moberly, the Indians earned the right to have their top four golfers Friday compete at the Class 1 state tournament on May 13-14 at Twin Hills Golf & Country Club in Joplin.

Pacey Reading finished third individually after shooting a 79, or nine-over par, only being beaten out by district champion Trevor Biggerstaff, of Canton, and his 76 and Salisbury's Nolan Gordon and his 78. Reading, who will making his second straight appearance, earned all-district honors by placing in the top 13.

Still, since Van-Far had a 361 team score to finish behind Salisbury's 326, Kaleb Baskett, Nikos Connaway and Kasen Christian will be joining Reading. Baskett had a 90, which was better than the state qualification cutoff score of 91, Connaway shot a 92, and Christian had a 100. Clara Wallace finished with a 122.
