Area residents will soon see a name change on their cable bill.
Charter Communications, Inc. announced Friday a definitive agreement to acquire cable television systems from US Cable of Coastal Texas, LP serving, in aggregate, approximately 16,000 customers in Missouri, including the communities of Hannibal, Moberly and Mexico.
"Customers won't experience any immediate changes. The transition phase will take six months or longer," said Charter Senior Communications Manager Jessica Myers. "Until the full transition occurs we can't give extreme specific answers. But we will be in full communication with customers so that they are aware of any changes that might take place, once the transition is complete.
"Customers that have our service are very pleased with the packets and products we provide. We hope that residents in the Mexico area will feel the same, and we think they will."
Myers said it's too early to know if the Mexico cable office will remain open after the take-over, or how customers will pay their bills – by mail or at a local pay center. She also was uncertain of any possible rate increases.
Charter is a leading broadband communications company and the fourth-largest cable operator in the United States. Charter provides a full range of advanced broadband services, including advanced Charter TV video entertainment programming, Charter Internet access and Charter Phone.
"The systems that will become part of Charter are a great fit with the Missouri communities we have served for many years," said Lisa Washa, Charter Regional Vice President. "Charter looks forward to building on the products that US Cable has offered in these communities."
Charter currently provides advanced communications services to 25 Missouri communities, including the St. Louis metropolitan area, where the country's fourth-largest cable operator is headquartered. Their services expand as far west as Warrenton and Clinton, and as far south as Cape Girardeau.
