The North Callaway Ladybirds opened their season at home Monday night against a first-time varsity team from Father Tolton High School from Columbia.
The Ladybirds took a commanding lead from the beginning scoring 16 points against their opponent's 3 in the first quarter. In the final quarter they scored 20 points and were victorious by a score of 48-18.
Maddie Sorell was the only player from either team to reached double figures with 18 points, 10 of them coming in the fourth quarter. Jaida Gray and Tara Oberlag scored 9 points each for North Callaway. For Father Tolton, River Remis led the team with 9 points.
"We were very ragged at the start, but the girls started to put it together in the fourth quarter and came out with the win," said coach Jack Peace. He added the team knows what they need to work on for future games.
Next action for the Ladybirds will be Tuesday at Centralia.
North Callaway's junior varsity team also won 21-17, after trailing at the half 11-3. Taylor Biseman scored 14 points for North Callaway.
