Ray Edward Heaton, 67 of Mexico, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 22, 2012 at his home.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Monday at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Terry Kukuk officiating. Visitation will follow the service at the church on Monday. Entombment will be in the First Presbyter-ian Columbarium.
Ray was born on January 9, 1945 in Oskaloosa, Iowa the son of Clifford and Kathryn (Boles) Heaton.
On February 3, 1968 in Mexico, Ray married Janet James and she survives.
Ray taught at the Hardin and Mexico Junior High Schools in Mexico for 30 years, where he was a Life Science Teacher. Ray was the head wrestling coach from 1987-1999, he also was a football and track coach. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Mexico, the Optimist Club, the Monday lunch and the Wednesday breakfast groups. Ray also worked for 13 years at Missouri Military Academy.
Along with his wife Janet, Ray is survived by a son, Todd Heaton and wife Malia of Phoenix, AZ; a daughter, Julie Lassere and husband Tracey of Daphne, AL; five grandchildren, twins, Sam and Sophie Heaton, Erin, Ethan, and Ellen Lassere; his mother, Kathryn Heaton of Oskaloosa, IA; mother-in-law, Virginia James of Mexico; sister, Lorraine Blom and husband Rex of Oskaloosa, IA.
Ray was preceded in death by his father, Clifford.
