MEXICO SEVENTH GRADE GIRLS: The Mexico Lady Bulldogs won their Mexico Middle School championship Saturday with a 40-22 victory against Moberly. The halftime score was 22-4. Leading scorers: Adria Costley 26P, Elisabeth Gooch 7P, Kylie Morgan 3P
"We had a great championship game where everyone contributed to the win. Moberly was a tough team, but we outscored them 14-0 in the second quarter which fueled the girls intensity after halftime. I am really proud of this group of girls; they played really hard during this entire season and really ended on a great note," stated MMS Coach Stephanie Schutte, who by the way was on the first team to win this tournament.
Mexico ended its season 6-6.

COMMUNITY R-6 GIRLS: The Lady Trojans had to grind this one out as they were faced with some early foul trouble which saw Louisiana going to the line way too often in the first half. "We kept them in the game by reaching too much and not moving our feet defensively. I knew it was going to be a good game as I have scouted the Lady Bulldogs this season and saw how they are a great mix of veteran players and some good freshmen," said R-6 Coach Bob Curtis. R-6 fought to the end and came out on top 39-32.
Paige Curtis led the R-6 attack with 12 points and 10 rebounds; Amelia Knipfel and Paige Harris chipped in 8 points apiece in the win. "I thought a big difference was the first four points of the second half came from senior leader Paige Harrison who set the tone as Louisiana went into the locker room with some momentum," said Coach Curtis. The lead swelled from 5 to 9 right away setting the mark for the second half.
