Mexico High School Lady Bulldogs had reason to celebrate Tuesday night. They got back on the winning side, beating conference rival Moberly Lady Spartans 58-35, dominated play throughout the game, and senior Brooke Costley hit the 1000 point mark in her career.
The game started slow with the Lady Spartans playing on the heels of the Lady Dawgs. Mexico regrouped and put together a strong second quarter outscoring Moberly 27-1 in the second, hitting six of their 11 three-pointers on the night.
"I've been preaching that we have a good shooting team and when we decide to defend and move with out the ball we become a better team," stated MHS coach Ed Costley. Anne Baker was able to break her shooting slump hitting four from three-point range on the night. "We've had girls stepping up every night giving us good balance on offense," added Costley. In the first half the Lady Dawgs shot 69 percent from three-point range making 9 of 13.
"Moberly put together a strong third as we expected and we talked about limiting the runs and taking care of the ball," stated Costley. Mexico had only seven turnovers for the night.
"This was a good win for our ball team winning 6 of last 7 games," said the coach.
Mexico, 10-6 overall and 3-1 in conference, plays at home again Thursday against Boonville.
