Four golfers earn all-NCMC honors

Four golfers earned all-NCMC honors Wednesday at Indian Foothills Golf Course in Marshall as the team narrowly missed winning the conference title by just three strokes to Moberly.
"We had high hopes going into this competition," coach Lindsey Yancey said. "I have no idea the last time Mexico brought home the NCMC Championship in girls golf, but we knew we had a great shot this year. The girls are taking this tough loss in stride and focusing on Monday, (when) we hope to bring home the district title."
Junior Abby Gooch was the Bulldog's top performer, shooting 94 over 18 holes to earn third-place individually. Seniors Layne Ray and Kaylee Stone tied for fourth at 95 strokes while junior Jessica Slagle shot 96 to earn seventh-place honors. Moberly's Nichole Marquis shot 82 to earn the individual conference title.
"We have been patiently waiting all season for Abby and Jessica to break 100 on a tournament and they really came through yesterday," Yancey said. "I am very, very impressed with the focus and skill with which they played the Indian Foothills course."
The result moves the Bulldogs to 31-7 on the season, improving on last year's impressive 24-11 record.
The team travels to Moberly Monday for the district tournament where the golfers look to take home the district title and earn a berth into the sectional championship. Last year they managed a second-place finish at district before finishing third at sectional and narrowly missing the state championship.
