Garbage truck becomes fire truck

A garbage truck fire led to an unusual dumping location -- a busy Mexico street.

On Tuesday morning someone noticed smoke coming from a garbage truck in the 1000 block of E. Love St. The Mexico Public Safety Department responded and found a small fire in the load that had been collected and compacted.

To prevent flames from spreading to the truck, garbage was off-loaded in the street and the fire was extinguished. Dayne’s Waste Disposal later returned and worked with MPSD to clear the roadway.

The fire was reported around 7:45 a.m. There were no injuries and no property damage from the incident.
