On Tuesday the North Callaway varsity boys basketball team began Eastern Missouri Conference competition at Van-Far.

That might not appear to be such a big deal at first glance. But, considering the Indians had already played several EMO games at this point, including a big win last Friday over Community R-6 that was highlighted by 42 points from Lathyn McMorris, and the true nature of that matchup finally starts to reveal itself.

Not that they were unprepared, though, as the Thunderbirds got 15 points from Tanner Pezold and 14 points and seven assists by Coy Danison, but even Dawson Wright's six points and seven rebounds weren't enough to keep Van-Far from winning 71-55.

The Indians actually led this contest from the start thanks to five three-pointers by McMorris that led to a 23-point performance, Josh Hodde had 18 points and Trey Miller scored 13 This allowed the team to go up 25-19 in the first quarter, 43-34 in the second and 56-44 in the third.

"Sometimes playing well isn't enough against a good team," said North Callaway coach Matthias Miller. "We have to find a way to get back to winning."

Van-Far, 4-0 overall, 2-0 EMO, is at Monroe City on Friday.

North Callaway, 2-4 overall, 0-1 EMO, has a league game at Community R-6 on Friday.
