The Room at the Inn, sponsored by the Audrain County Shelter Resource Coalition will open Monday night, New Year's Day and continue through February 28. It will be held at Garfield Community Center at the Mexico Housing Authority, 820 Garfield, Mexico. The hours of operation are from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. seven days a week. Check-in time is from 7 to 8 p.m. The shelter provides a warm safe environment for those who are displaced and in need of shelter for the night, during inclement weather.

Volunteers are still needed to help at the shelter. Anyone who would like to volunteer should visit Room at the Inn's Facebook page at Audrain County Shelter Resource Coalition and click on the Signupgenius link, call 573-473-6328 or e-mail

Guests are required to have their belongings stored in a locked closet. No alcohol, firearms or tobacco of any form is allowed inside the building. For people who spoke there will be a smoke break. Lights are out at 10 p.m. and the doors are locked. Guests will be searched with a hand held wand to ensure safety of everyone involved.

This project is made possible by the support of the community, volunteers, and members of the coalition.
