Knowing it had to play at Clopton, 3-6 overall, on Tuesday in the first round of its Invitational, the Wellsville-Middletown varsity boys basketball team, 2-6 overall, still decided it wasn't going to hold anything back at Moberly Area Community College on Dec. 29 against Madison, 3-8 overall.

Even though the Tigers have no idea what lies ahead, against the Panthers, while things couldn't have been much closer, Wellsville-Middletown was able to edge out a 55-53 victory.

"(We had very) balanced scoring," said Tigers head coach Steve Lasman. "Madison is a very good team."

Leading Wellsville-Middletown with 20 points was Nick Ebers.

The Tigers will host Mark Twain, 5-5 overall, on Jan. 12 and the Wellsville-Middletown girls wlecome Mark Twain on Jan. 11.
