When the Macon varsity boys basketball team began its own tournament on Monday at home on MLK Day, the squad had to battle for 32 minutes in order to just barely defeat Mexico, and then on Wednesday in round two the squad had to face Centralia.

When the Panthers began this same event that same day, the end result was a rousing success. That made for quite a matchup when Centralia and the Tigers went head-to-head in the second round of that event on Wednesday, leading to Macon grabbing early leads of 9-6 at the end of the first quarter and 25-21 at halftime. The Panthers were far from shook, though, flipping the script and going up 32-25 in the third so that they were in position to clock a 49-43 decision.

Taking point on this mission for Centralia was Nic Brooks and bcking him up with nine pointd ecah were Guy Moran and John Durant.

The Panthers played for the Macon Tournament title on Friday.
