When the Sturgeon Tournament came to a close on Saturday for the Community R-6 varsity boys basketball team, it was hoping to close this event out by winning the consolation game against Salisbury.

It's one thing to have good intentions, but quite another to get good results, and while the Trojans Bobby Jett scored 23 points in an effort to put his team over the top, in the end it wasn't quite enough as it was Salibury that ended up coming out ahead 56-51.

"We were down eight end of third quarter and Salisbury got it out to a 10 to 12 point lead early in the fourth quarter," said coach Matt Thomas. "We got it back to three, but couldn't get it under that. We were just sluggish offensively all day long."

CR-6's only other scorer in double digits was Cordell Hollensteiner with 11 points, Evan Hartsock and Eric Hombs added five points each and Kyle Oligschlaeger scored four. Blaze Escamilla also came through with three points.

As for Salisbury, Gavin Ramsey managed 18 points, Jackson King and Garrett Fessler posted 12 points each and Logan Woolridge was good for seven points.

Despite the fact the Trojan did outscore Salisbury 16-13 in the fourth and the second was a 10-10 deadlock, one difference in this matchup was that Salisbury claimed the first 15-10 and the third 18-15.

CR-6, 7-11 overall, has an Eastern Missouri Conference contest at Wellsville-Middletown on Friday.
