While the Mexico varsity girls basketball team has only played at home once this season, to its credit that game was a rousing success as it got the better of Battle in almost every way imaginable in early January after the final matchup of the Tyronn Lou Tournament of Champions.

Since then the Lady Bulldogs have been on the road like they have an album to support and that trip doesn't end until they host Kirksville on Feb. 13 for a North Central Missouri Conference contest. Until then the team simply has to make the best of what they're working with and this Friday that means making the journey to Marshall, 11-4, 3-2 NCMC, for a league game.

One way to examine what Mexico, 8-9 overall, 4-3 NCMC, has to offer is to look back at one of its fondest home court memories of the current season, which took place Dec. 19 when the squad beat area rival Fulton 60-28. That's an opponent always that travels and certainly does its best to negate the home court advantage, making Adria Costley's 13 points, five rebounds and two steals that much more satidfying. Taylor Sherrow was also more than happy to serve up the competition with 10 points and three steals.

The key for the Lady Bulldogs in this game wasn;t going 14-for-38 on two-pointers, but instead it was the fcat they made seven of the 14 three-pointers they attempted. Going 11-for-16 from the free throw line with 17 steals didn't hurt, either. Defensively Mexico also didn't allow the Lady Hornets to make a single triple and they only pulled down 18 rebounds.

If the information on maxpreps.com is to be believed, Marshall begn the year by winning three in-a-row, it has a 14-person roster and is currently on a six-game win streak. As if that wasn't enough, the Lady Owls also average close to 31 rebounds per contest and junior Kassidy Heying is putting up 19.5 points, 3.1 assists and 2.6 steals per game.

Backing her up are seniors Lyssa Acgalon, who goes for about 10 points, 4.4 rebounds, and three assists a game, and Taylor Crawford averages around nine points, five rebounds and two assists.

Mexico is at Highland in league competitionn on Feb. 9.
