Dr. Mary Virginia Gooch, 70, of Wellsville, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, Friday, February 16th at Church of the Resurrection in Wellsville.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 noon, Friday, February 16th at the church. Rev. Joseph Abah will officiate.
Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Wellsville. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Austin Gooch, Brenden Gooch, Hayden Gooch, Carmyn Holmes, Courtney Holmes and Noah Holmes. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Andi Holmes and Cassidy Gooch and great-grandchildren, Matthew Painter, Melanie Holmes, Maci Hinson, Miley Holmes and Jameson Burnett.
Services are under the direction of the Myers Funeral Home in Wellsville.
Mrs. Gooch was born December 22, 1947 in Mexico, Missouri, a daughter of John Joseph Nation Sr. and Florence Virginia (Grennan) Nation.
On October 12, 1968 at the Church of the Resurrection in Wellsvile, she married James Everett “Jim” Gooch. They shared almost 50 years of marriage together and were the parents of 2 children.
Mary was a 1965 graduate of Wellsville-Middletown R-1 High School. She continued her education at St. John’s Mercy School of Nursing and graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1968. While working as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in St. Charles, Mary continued her studies, graduating with her Master’s Degree. After receiving her Master’s, Mary worked as a counselor for a psychiatrist in St. Charles for several years. Mary continued on with her education while working as a counselor, receiving her PhD in 1993 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. She later went to work for MERS (Missouri Goodwill Industries) as a psychologist for over 20 years.
Mary and Jim have lived in Wellsville since 2003. Prior to that, they lived in St. Charles.
