Having defeated the Missouri Military Academy in the opening round of team districts the week before, last Saturday the Mexico varsity boys tennis team took the court in individual districts.

Among those competing for the Bulldogs was Muhammed Waheed at No. 2 Singles, who began the event by with a bye prior to downing Moberly's No. 2, 6-4, 7-6. Waheed the fell to Kirksville's No. 1, 0-6, 0-6, in the semifinals to end up in the third place match against MMA's No. 1, who also defeated him 1-10, meaning he ended up earning a fourth-place medal for Mexico.

The Bulldogs only other entrant into single play was Kaled Mason and he was eliminated by MMA's No. 1 in round two, 2-6, 1-6, after drawing a round one bye.

In doubles competition Ryan Pemberton/Andre Maffezzoni started out for Mexico with a win by forfeit against MMA's No. 2, only to then get eliminated by Boonville's No. 2, 0-6, 1-6.

Ryan Shopher/Steven Owings also were in action for the Bulldogs last Saturday and were downed in round one by Kirksville's No. 1, 2-6, 3-6.

"Overall we had a very up and down season and we are losing two of these top six players at the end of the school year," said head coach Brad Smith. "But with the work ethic our team showed this year and their desire to get better, I am very excited for the future."
