Despite the fact she'd never competed at the Missouri State High School Athletic Association Class 1 track and field championship meet at Jefferson City High School, Community R-6's Natalie Thomas didn't come across as being new to the javelin last weekend, either.

That's because she was too busy working her way to the top of the charts with throws of 99-09, 99-07, a personal record of 109-06 and then finally a new persoanl and school record of 116-02 to finish third in the state.

"I am extremely proud of Natalie. This is her first year competing in Track and Field. She tried a new event, Javelin," said CR-6 coach Stacie Carroz. "Throughout our meets this year, she has set a personal and school record in every meet in the Javelin. Natalie has put in the time and effort to get better in each practice and meet and it showed at State on Saturday. She placed 3rd overall in Class 1 and Class 2. Really looking forward watching her compete the next two years of her high school career."

For Paris, the highlights for its girls girls team included Hannah Mitchell finishing second in the discus and sixth in the shot put, Ally Francis placed sixth in the 3,200 and Marriko Williams came in seventh in the pole vault. Grace Peak also took 16th in the pole vault and the 4x800 relay team of Peak, Sydnee Price, Delaney Miller and Francis were 13th.

The Coyotes boys, on the other hand, were led by Brett Miller in fourth place in the long jump, Reese Barton took seventh in the high jump and Breck Hancock finished 10th in the shot put. Brock Miller claimed 15th in the pole vault, as well.

"Hannah Mitchell would have broke the state record in discus had it not been for the girl who beat heron Saturday," said Paris coach Gary Crusha. "This was the third year in a row for Brett Miller to medal in the long jump."

Wellsville-Middletown was also represented by Tyler Bunch in the discus and he took the 12th spot with a throw of 124-10.
