Men's Soccer Ranks Seventh in Preseason Poll


Columbia, Mo. -This afternoon the NAIA national office announced the 2018 NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll. The Cougars, who are picked to finish first in the American Midwest Conference, will open the 2018 campaign as the seventh ranked team in the NAIA.

The men's soccer team is coming off a successful 2017 season where they finished the year with a 19-2-3 overall record. They won the AMC regular season and tournament titles before making a run to the 2017 NAIA Men's Soccer National Championship Quarterfinals where they were defeated in penalty kicks by Wayland Baptist (Texas) University. The team finished the season ranked second in the NAIA in total shutouts (12.000), 20th in shutouts per game (0.500), and 41st in total goals (50).

The men's soccer team returns 13 players from last year's squad including six players who made 10 or more starts a season ago. In addition to the returning players, there are also 10 newcomers including five transfers and five freshman.

The Cougars will open their season on Wednesday, August 22ndwhen they play host to the Bellevue (Neb.) University Bruins in a nonconference matchup. The game is set to start at 7 p.m. at R. Marvin Owen's Field.
