In its 2018-19 debut, the Montgomery County varsity girls volleyball team had plenty on the line at home on Monday as it had to host Four Rivers Conference member Hermann for a non-league matchup that was sure to test the squads limited depth.

Because head coach Rachel Leu isn't one to make excuses for her team, the Lady Wildcats took this challenge head on, and though brave in their efforts, Hermann eventually proved to be just to much by winning, 25-11, 25-16.

"We played well against a very good team," Leu said. "I was proud of the attitude and drive we had on the court."

One of the players that really stood out despite the outcome for Montgomery County was Paige Oden with nine assists and eight digs, Makenna Meyer added five kills and coming through with five digs was Anna Shaw.

The Montgomery County varsity softball team was also slated to compete at the New Haven Tournament on Saturday, but was unable to get in on the action because of rain.

The Lady Wildcats, 0-1 overall, 0-0 Eastern Missouri Conference, next have another non-conference contest today at home against Warrenton at 5:30 p.m. and on Thursday the team is at North Callaway for an EMO contest at the same time.
