A new era of varsity volleyball began for North Callaway of Monday as Amy Wells led her band of athletes into non-league competition for the very first time at Russellville.
"The North Callaway Thunderbirds traveled to Russellville and both JV and Varsity were able to walk away with the first win of the season. The Varsity played three games. The scores were 20-25, 25-20, 25-22. Fortunately, North Callaway walked away with a win," said Wells. "(The) JV scores were 25-23 and 25-14. The girls on both sides of the net played really well. The Thunderbirds demonstrated cohesiveness which was vital to winning."
Next week the Ladybird's have some non-league meet's on their schedule starting with a trip to Fulton on Sept. 4 at 5 p.m. The squad also hosts Hallsville on Sept. 6 for a match that begins at 5:30 p.m.
"Russellville put up a good fight and the games were competitive. (North Callaway) wavered a little bit but then pulled themselves together and were able to finish strong," Wells said. "This team is extremely close and truly understand putting team before self. When the chips are down we really rally around each other and continue to fight. This was a good game to start the season with and we are looking forward to playing Montgomery City at home Thursday."
