The race to the top of the Eastern Missouri Conference is never a gentle one and that fact definitely becomes intensified during football season.
For the Montgomery County varsity this meant making its 2018-19 debut at South Callaway last Friday after dropping two non-league games to start the year. While the position was far from enviable, like any trapped animal, the Wildcats came out fighting and had every intention of coming out alive. The Bulldogs aren't exactly great hosts, though, and instead looked to dash those hopes, so they started scoring early and often.
Specifically, South Callaway scored six points in the first quarter, 15 in the second and 13 in the third to go up 34-0, and while Montgomery County did score 12 in the fourth, all that did was make the final score 34-12.
