When the Centralia varsity softball team hosted Mexico last Tuesday the entire game came down to the very last out with the bases loaded at home, so when the squad had to travel to Brookfield for a Clarence Cannon contest last Thursday and things got dicey, it was ready for what came next.
These two contests weren't quite mirror images of one another because last Thursday the Lady Panthers had scored runs in the first and second innings, so they were up 2-0 heading into the seventh. And when they needed it most Centralia was able to put another three runs on Brookfield in that final stanza to claim this league victory 5-0.
Helping set the pace for the Lady Panthers offense in this game were Anna Romine, Gwendolyn Bostick and Scarlett Fox with two hits each. Bostick and and Fox also had two RBI each and adding one RBO was Olivia Hombs.
Handling the pitching duties for the Lady Panthers was Bostick, allowing five hits and striking out five to earn the complete-game victory. At least part of the reason things went so well for Bostick in the circle is that she was able to throw a first-pitch strike to all of the 21 batters she faced.
For this contest both teams made two errors.
Centralia was at the Capital City Classic in Jefferson City over the weekend and on Sept. 17 the Lady Panthers host Monroe City in league competition.
