The Bulldogs varsity wrestling team never tends to end up with an easy opponent on its schedule and Tuesday was no exception as it was at Marshall with Oak Grove, defeating the Owls 50-27 but losing to Oak Grove 40-33.
Against its hosts highlights for Mexico according to trackwrestling.com included Kevin Ransom at 103 pinning Dustin Bellamy in :34, at 113 the Bulldogs Brayan Juarez won 13-6 over Gavin Mills and at 126 Dylan Mosely downed Marshall's Herson Renderos in :45. Kevin Duong also came out on top for the Bulldogs at 138 in 1:34 against Jaden Riley, at 145 Mexico's George Thomas stuck Lakeshia Thomas in 1:23 and at 160 Terrell Williams won by void.
Blayne Weiberg's victory at 170 was a hard-fought, 20-5 technical fall over the Owl's Owen Kiso while at 195 for the Bulldogs Deacon Haag got the better of Deven Loney in 3:11 and at heavyweight Maverick Sadler dominated Marshall's Tielor Bradshaw in 1:21.
The highlights didn't run quite so high against Oak Grove, but did feature Ransom downing Kaden Scarborough in 3:00 at 103, Duong won for Mexico in 3:11 at 138 against Carson Smith and at 152 the Bulldog's Clint Allen edged out Clynton Stewart. Sadler charted a victory at 285 over Oak Grove's Garrett Hudspeth and Brayan and Ricardo Juarez drew wins by void at 113 and 120 lbs., respectively.
Mexico is at the Liberty-Wentzville Tournament on Saturday.
