Utility Vehicles, all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles, a mower and bales of hay were among the stolen items recovered in a three-day investigation and seizure by the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department, aided by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department.

Jeremy W. Smith, 32, of Auxvasse was arrested in connection with the thefts, and charges are being sought. Smith has previous convictions for possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely, according to a Audrain County Sheriff’s Department release.

The investigation kicked off Saturday when Audrain County Deputy Ryan Teague conducted a traffic stop in Mexico and reportedly spotted recently stolen property. The Audrain and Callaway sheriff’s departments spent the next 72 hours recovering two UTVs, both stolen from Audrain County; three ATVs, two of which were stolen from Audrain County; two motorcycles, where one was stolen from Audrain County; a Dixon ZTR mower, from Audrain County; a utility trailer from Boone County; a Bobcat battery and numerous other tools and miscellaneous items.

The recovered items are estimated to cost $35,000, which stem from six different reported thefts to Mexico Department of Public Safety and Boone County Sheriff’s Department.

Four round bales of hay also were discovered, along with a bale spear. According to an update from the Audrain County Sheriff's Department, the owner of the bale spear was found late Thursday.
